I didn't end that last post very well. I didn't mean to imply I wasn't going to have the surgery. I was just whining, because that's what I do, whine. And the look on hubby's face was priceless: Panic! I could read his mind: if she doesn't have it, I'll go crazy.
We had a lovely lunch and enjoyed strolling through Walmart together. We had no plan and I just don't do well shopping unless I know what we're going to eat.
I worked out again this afternoon. I bought Richard Simmons' 60s Blast Off and Disco Sweat recently, and I'm very thankful I have the Blast Off. It's 30 minutes, but it's a nice workout.
As we were leaving Wally World, I saw a mom about my size with two younger kids. They had their groceries in the back of their van and they were scarfing down powdered sugar donuts like there was no tomorrow. She was in full binge mode, as were her kids, and she was covered in powdered sugar. She brushed it off as she noticed me looking at her.
I used to do that. I used to buy donuts or cookies and come home and scarf. I never did it in the parking lot, though. My heart ached for her. My heart ached for myself, what I used to do. I hope that never comes back to me.
I feel ya on that lady with the donuts. I think the saddest part is that she is passing on that legacy to her children. It has to stop. Sobering.
ReplyDeleteOof. That's such a sad image.
ReplyDeleteThe donut story got me! I often think about my future and children and one of my first thoughts is, I don't want any kid to have the eating habits I have/had (not sure what tense to put it in just yet). I was also a binge eater but I liked to do my best work in private. That breaks my heart and I hope she finds whatever is missing because for me, that's what binging was all about. I'm learning though if hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the solution. It's a tough lesson.
ReplyDeleteyikes...yeah I see people do stuff that I USED to do and I cringe. I would have waited till I got in my car---oh and drove to a spot in the parking lot where no one could watch me scarf them down. Sad.
ReplyDeleteUgh. Donuts are evil. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been that person with the donuts. It's a sad sad situation. When I see someone like that I just want to talk to them. But most times I don't in fear of how they might respond.
ReplyDeleteThere's no going back to that way of living, I promise you that! I know you feel the same way!
I have got to look into these Richard Simmons DVD. I have never been a binge eater but there are times where I would do all I could to avoid eating in public I would always feel that people would be watching what I ate & god forbid I had a salad(which I love) they would think I was just putting on a front.
ReplyDeleteI have done stuff like that in my car :( Never around other people though. That poor lady and her poor kids. I hope they find a healthy lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteWe never know what we think we see, it might be some other reason altogether. But chances are, you are right, it was a binge in the parking lot. I ate a popsicle in the car today, driving home. I feel silly now.
ReplyDeleteyep. seeing old habits happening to some one else isn't fun. half of me wants to warn them and the other half wants to run away screaming. *cringe*
