A health, fitness, and weight-loss story.

Smug

Just when things are turning for the better, health is getting taken care of, I get a confirmation of good blood pressure once again, a doctor becoming animated over my weight loss...

When I'm feeling like I'm on top of the world, kicking butt on this weight loss journey, going strong...

I realized...

I'm getting cocky.

I think that karma was due to bite me in the butt. It did last night.

Last night when we went out to dinner to celebrate the appointment being over and finally knowing what's going on, I was humbled. Really humbled.

They put us in a booth.

Can you see where this is going? I sat down and dog gone it, there was not room for me in the booth. I looked my hubby in the eye, said his name quietly, and he discretely pulled the table toward him. (God love that man.)

I scooted in, took the menu and wondered how red my face was. When it was just us, I looked at hubby and said: After losing 30 pounds, this is still happening? What would this situation have looked like in February when I was 30 pounds heavier and my stomach was a lot bigger?

God was just reminding me that while I've done a great job so far, my task is not complete. Oh yeah, I'm still morbidly obese.

This didn't make me sad, I didn't get all negative in my thinking. I was thankful that it wasn't worse, like it would have been if I were still 282.5. It strengthened my resolve. We enjoyed our dinner, and yes, I stayed on plan.

  1. I'm cocky, too, because I know that I'm in control of this process, of my body, of my future. Take pride in the 30 lbs. you've put behind you, but stay focused on the goal in front of you.

  2. Go ahead, be a little cocky. You deserve it. A damned table in a booth will NOT be the undoing of all the good you've done. I remember having the same thing happen to me....but....the table was stationary!! It could not be moved to accommodate my "extra". Now THAT was embarassing. You're doing great, keep it up.

  4. I hate those slaps in the face that say "Your not done yet".

  5. Glad you stayed on your food plan. Be grateful for the big blessing of 30 pounds gone & for the small blessing that the table wasn't bolted to the floor & COULD be moved. I hate when the damn thing is bolted to the floor and you feel stuffed in the booth like sausage in a casing~~~the feeling that the table is pulled right up to my chin. Dang I hate that.
    Keep up the great work.

  7. Sometimes we need a reminder, right? I try to use those to encourage me. Like the shorts I couldn't get up over my thighs this morning...

  8. Congratulations for staying on plna despite the disappointment of the booth. The booth is minor compared to the triumph of your improved health.

  9. Ohhhhh...that's happened to me. I used to pretend I kicked the table to get it to move rather than ask my dining companion to pull it closer. You've done SO WELL. Hang on to that accomplishment!

  10. BOOTHFUCKINGTASTIC!!! I think that many of us here in blogland have (or had booth problems)... me still after more than 70 pounds... I must say that I am glad you sat in one that moved. The booth situations that are cemented to the wall- yeah!! THOSE HURT THE EGO.

  12. You truly amaze me Jo. You put such a positive spin on that whole situation, and used it to strengthen your commitment! You're one tough cookie! Oops, sorry, I shouldn't have said cookie. :-)

  14. When you said booth I knew. Its so sad and embarrassing. I don't like to go out to eat just for that reason I skip restaurants that I don't know how the seating works. I also have to ask for a table or they will try to squeeze my fat a$$ in a small booth that wont move. I feel like they know I won't fit and just try to embarrass me, well I have news for them I embarrass myself I don't need their help.

  16. Look at it this way, next time you find yourself in the situation, you'll probably fit just fine. Kudos to your husband for helping you out. My SO doesn't notice anything unless I actually tell him.

  17. You are a rock star! You're sticking with it, and not letting something like a booth get ya down. That booth is very symbolic of the entire reason you started this journey to begin with.
