I've spent time this morning catching up on blogs. I commented on some, and read all that were updated on my list. So I am still reading, and I'm learning to cut back. It's difficult because I enjoy leaving comments. The balance was right, though, as I didn't spend a lot of time, came away inspired, and left words where I felt compelled to do so. So, it's all good.

Popcorn: It's a snack I absolutely love, and have nearly every day. I'm very frustrated with my air popper, though. I weigh out my 40 grams of popcorn, put it in, and half of the kernels spray out unpopped. I feel I'm getting cheated points wise. Then I started doubling...I'd weigh 80 grams, make my popcorn, and weigh the unpopped kernels. Magically, every time, 50% were unpopped. So I felt I was getting my true points value.
It bugs me because I'm wasting popcorn! So I've been looking for a new air popper. I'm thinking I'm going to order the Presto Powerpop Microwave Multi-popper. It gets rave reviews all over the internet. The only bad thing is you have to buy cardboard "powercup concentrators" to be used with it. They're cheap, but I know I'll have to buy online because I live in the boondocks.
For those of you who enjoy microwave popcorn, what popper do you use? Anyone have that Presto popper? I just want my money's worth when I buy popcorn, and I want my points' worth when I make it. I'm tired of 50% spoilage. I would love recommendations!
I freakin' love popcorn...It's like a drug addiction to me. Ihave to stay away from it...I am jealous of your popcorn and your will power.
ReplyDeleteMaking it myself just seems like too much work. I eat the 94% fat free microwave popcorn. :)
ReplyDeleteI too use the pre-packaged microwave popcorn. I much prefer oil popped (which is how I used to eat it -- I've always loved popcorn) and never even liked the microwave stuff, but the 94% ff stuff is much less overwhelming and replaces the flavor lost if I can't pop in oil and top with butter. But yeah, I feel your pain about wasted popcorn. I glare bitterly at the unpopped kernels every time I make it. :-)
ReplyDeleteIf there ever was a food with varying degrees of calorie seperation, it's popcorn! You're making it right, the best way calorie wise, with that hot air popper. We have one too, but we never use it. We found a microwave variety that's only 120 calories for the entire bag. We usually split a bag when we have it...But we rarely have it!
ReplyDeleteWe avoid movie popcorn at all cost. That stuff is crazy loaded!
My best always
Sean
You are so sweet. I tried to leave a long, motivated, and inspiring comment yesterday--but I hit the wrong button and lost it. Then I just couldn't face writing it again. It's been one of those weekends. BTW--I LOVE popcorn, but I am allergic to corn. I love to eat popcorn, but can't. So even though it is a light, filling snack that I love--I have to say no. Count your blessing today that popcorn is your friend!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with my air popper. I pop 4 tablespoons and seems like one tablespoon is always unpopped. When I am motivated enough, I put the kernels in a microwave-safe casserole and they usually pop. That sort of takes away from the experience of sitting down with a bowl of popcorn, though!
ReplyDeleteI buy the 94% FF popcorn too. I buy the single serving bags, because it is portion control, but then again it is more expensive that way. It tastes great with a little Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix powder (0pts) or Creole Seasoning (0pts) on it.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes do feel cheated when I see the unpopped kernels in the bottom of the bag, but then again I feel cheated when my 3 year old comes over and steals a handful here and there too. The leftover kernels get thrown out to the chickens, so I guess that isn't really wasting it.
Mom and Dad have a microwave popcorn popper that doesn't use any type of cardboard thingie. I don't know where they got it, but it is just a big bowl with a small bottom and a red lid. It works pretty well. Actually, you can pop popcorn in a microwave in a paper bag, but you will get better results with the little foil/cardboard thingie. Sorry, I don't konw the technical term.
