I was excited tonight. Hubby is taking the day off, and since he and DS are still sick, and we can't do school *well* when he's home, I called the day off. *I* was going to have a ME day. I was going to drive to the city and hit the thrift stores there, then Kohl's, TJ Maxx and maybe the mall in search of a few pieces of clothing, eat lunch at Taco Bell (once every few months isn't had), and just have some quiet. I was even thinking of dropping by the beauty school for a pedicure or manicure or something fun, when all of a sudden...
I was in bed, DS was in his bed, and he came running into my room. "Mom, one of my brackets fell off--it's the one my headgear attaches to." So we put it all in a Ziploc baggie, and now he'll be going with me if we can get in tomorrow.
I love my son, I love spending time with him--which is a good thing because we are homeschoolers, but I was so looking forward to a ME day. I don't get them often at all. So I'm kind of down in the dumps now.
I'll still hit a few stores, but any fun factor will be gone because I know DS will be patiently waiting while I search and try on. You can only ask so much of a kid, and that's definitely not fun for him. Plus, he's not feeling well which would be unfair to him--and I probably shouldn't drag him into any store as that's a pet peeve of mine, people going out when they're sick, spreading the germs.
Oh well. I just bought some new exercise DVDs to make me feel better. One of the few times I told DH before I bought them. lol
:( Can I just say I think it's AWESOME that workout DVDs are what you indulged in for comfort (instead of, say, leftover candy)? That inspires me.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you need to take two trips. One to the dentist with the little guy, then one where you drop him off at home and go shopping.
ReplyDeleteHope it still turns into a strong day.
Cheers,
Missa

I also really enjoy going to thrift stores. There are so many great deals.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to have your "fun" day very soon...you definitely deserve it Jo. And I get the whole wondering when your mind is going to catch up to your body. Another blogger sent me some clothes yesterday when she cleaned out her closet. They were all 1X's...I thought none of them would fit!! Thinking I'm still a 2X I guess....well, they ALL fit! Every single one of them!! My brain in still in shock the next morning, lol.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they won't be able to get him in tomorrow. Then you can take another day off and like the above blogger said, have a day for the dentist and a different day for you. All moms, but especially homeschool moms, NEED a day off every once in a while. (pretty often actually). If it doesn't work out, why don't you pick a day and put it on the calendar as YOUR day....and go do things that only you enjoy. :) I know, easier said than done. I need to take my own advice.
ReplyDeleteSorry! I know how bad that sucks! I guess it would be mean to hope the hubby has to be home another day and you get your "me" day?
ReplyDeleteKinda like Roseann Rosannadanna used to say "It's always something". Hope you get your ME day very soon. But just think of DS's beautiful smile when the braces come off and he's smiling at you because you're such a great teacher/mom. It'll be worth it then. :0
ReplyDeleteI have been getting DVDs on the DL too Jo so don't feel too bad ;-)
ReplyDeleteHope you get some ME time regardless.
I love thrift stores, we have a couple close to where I work. Sorry you did not get to have a me day.
ReplyDeleteThrift shops, TJMaxx, and Kohls....you sound like my kinda girl! lol.
ReplyDeleteDo you have before and after pics on here somewhere? I love seeing transformations. Although you're not complete, a 74 lb loss is quite a transformation.
oh dear. thats unfortunate but hes a good kid.
ReplyDeletesometimes you do just need a *you* day. i know i do.
I have just discovered craigslist.
ReplyDeleteSince you mentioned once that you are far away
from a city or civilization, that might work for you!
Just a thought, dear Jo.
I think you already know I'm a thrift store junkie! My husband put me up in a hotel this past Friday for some alone time and it was FABULOUS!! I knew I needed some time but I didn't know how bad I needed it until I was there - BY MYSELF!! Everything I did was without interruptions!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDo it soon (taking time for yourself)!
