In the Nick of Time

I did it. I exercised today.

I woke up tired, tired, tired. I was dragging and the coffee didn't help. I was debating with myself about exercise. I tried to convince myself that I needed a day of rest, so I didn't work out.

I spent the day doing mundane tasks like school (only mundane when it's almost summer vacation, otherwise it's fun!), making appointments, calling insurance, blah, blah, blah. Then an order from Amazon arrived and I sat and read an entire book in two hours. That book deserves an entire post to itself.

Hubby came home and informed me he had a date with the couch and if I wanted to exercise, get to it. (I don't like to exercise in front of him, and I only work out in the living room where the big TV is and there's carpeting.)

So his telling me to get to it got me to it. I filled my water jug and plugged in the DVD. I was feeling a bit lazy so I did Sweatin' to the Oldies again. I think that one is about 40 minutes long, while the others are an hour.

I did it, I lived to tell the tale. I felt so much better when I was done. How weird is that?

I plan on working out every single day from here on out. I am worth it, my health is worth it.

I'll quit blogging about it daily because this was my I Can Do That for the week. I might recap at the end of the week though, a girl has to share a little. And I will continue to fill in that calendar on my sidebar. I just figured out you can change the colors, so I'll play with that, too.

I, a former sedentary girl, have become an exerciser. I have worked out seven days in a row.

Repeat: I AM AN EXERCISER. I WORK OUT DAILY. I HAVE WORKED OUT SEVEN DAYS IN A ROW (and have no desire to quit!)

Holy cow. If I can do this.... !!!!!!!

Sleep Problems

The last two weeks I have had a terrible time falling asleep. I go to bed, toss and turn, my mind races. I get up, go back to bed, get up, go back to bed, blah, blah, blah.

I thought starting an exercise routine would help. So far, it hasn't.

I have a hypnosis CD specifically for sleep. My mind is races so bad that I'm not hearing anything, and I'm definitely not relaxing.

Today was a very long day. I exercised, we schooled, and then we left the house late afternoon for our dog obedience class. I forgot how physical that class was. Driving to the city an hour away, we noticed it was unseasonably warm. It was 88 out according to our car's thermometer, and it felt it.

The obedience classroom, a big dog spa, was hotter than he--you know what. In the class, we walk around the very large room practicing new commands. I walked an hour. Stop, start, stop, but mostly walking. I was sweating nearly as much as during my workout this morning. I did not have bottled water with me and toward the end of the class I whispered to my husband I was afraid I'd pass out. I didn't. Thankfully I had water in the car and I drank and drank.

So we went to Taco Bell, had our dinner and came home. I was so tired I didn't feel like driving, but my hubby gets up well before the crack of dawn was too tired to drive. So I did.

Got home, exhausted, had to deal with dogs, feeding, mail, stuff. I took a hot soak in the tub, afraid I might fall asleep. Got out and BOING my eyes opened and I was wide awake.

So I've been in and out of bed again. My mind races, I'm not tired, and I'm just ticked.

Why can't I settle my mind to sleep? What the heck is wrong with me? Is this anxiety related? The other night I took an Ambien, but it did nothing. The CD doesn't help.

So I already know how tomorrow will start: just like every day for the last two weeks. I'll oversleep, we'll scurry about getting our morning stuff done so we can start school. My son will get going, I'll exercise, then shower, and it will be noon. I'll be behind on everything again.

This stinks!

So I'm on the lookout for solutions. What can I do to settle my mind. I don't have a problem sleeping, my problem has always been getting to sleep. I have to figure this out, because it is reducing the quality of my life, of that of my son, too. He's a teenager, he could sleep forever in the morning. He has got me up a couple times this week, though. Strange.

I only pray for big things regarding myself, so I will do that. Tomorrow I'll do some research on the internet.

UGH

I had a great on-point day, short on veggies and fruit though. I had no problem dusting myself off after that sandwich last night. Ate within my points at Taco Bell and enjoyed every bite.

Richard Simmons

Yes, I love him.

I joined his clubhouse recently and am very glad I did. The forum is different to me -- many posts with thousands of replies. I'm not used to that. I am intimidated by opening up such large things. I do post there on occasion, though.

I joined in on Richard's chat Monday night. I was mesmerized. I got there early and I told my husband there was no way I'd get anything out of it because the screen was scrolling faster than I could keep up with. When he joined the room, it quieted quite a bit and I was able to follow. Whew. I saw a couple friends there. Anyone besides Ang and Summer there? Dawn, are you there, too?

Anyway, after the chat I felt very motivated. I was in my jammies already, but I got dressed and did the grocery shopping. lol I kept repeating things Richard had said to my husband. (Yes, I'm a goober.) I loved it!

My QVC order arrived today. I ordered the DVDs Sweatin' to the Oldies 1-4, Party off the Pounds and Boogie Down the Pounds and Love Yourself and Win. I am thrilled beyond measure to have these on DVD. Since I already worked out today, I didn't exercise a second time. I did pop each DVD into the computer and watch the added bonus stuff. I became teary watching Richard tell his story. Sniff, sniff.

Then I put in the new Boogie Down and Party Off the Pounds DVDs. I liked the Boogie fine, although it was a touch dark for Richard! Of course it was a disco, but usually his videos are so bright. I'll do it happily, though.

Then I put Party Off the Pounds. Oh my gosh. I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd say this, but, ahem, the music--ugh. It's the robot music from the 80s. If I exercised to that I would have a headache. I muted it, skipped through each set and was saddened, because I really liked the routines. I must learn to like robot music. I am a product of the 80s, I graduated in '83. That's my era! I haven't listened to anything techno aside from Whip It! for a long time.

I'm getting old. lol

Last night I popped into the chatroom at Richard's clubhouse. I chatted with five or six women. It was lovely. I think the chats, with Richard and with others, are going to be a lot of fun for me.

In the chat I revealed a secret. I have always wanted an autographed picture of Richard to hang on my fridge. I know people write to him all the time. I know he does this. I know he calls people. I know I'm too shy to ask. At the moment, I'm in a good place and I don't need that extra boost. I would rather him spend his time with people who do really need him at the moment. (My day may come in this journey!) The ladies told me to write him and ask anyway, that he would be glad to.

So I will. When he returns from his cruise. Maybe. (Make me do it! lol)

Back in the 80s I lived in Colorado. He built an Asylum -- what were they called? Anatomy Asylums? It was blocks from my house. On grand opening day, I called to ask about it. I wanted to join. I was a skinny junior or senior in high school, but I loved him on General Hospital and I loved his TV show. Mom and I used to watch it together. I still have and use a recipe we got on that program, I'll have to dig it up and share it some day.

Whomever I talked to couldn't talk to me at the moment. She took down my name and number and said she'd get back to me. Well, I was off at school and my Mom got a phone call. It was Richard himself. She said he was very nice, and the conversation was short and sweet. I was devastated! I have told that story so many times, I was this close. lol

I didn't join, because Mom didn't think it was necessary. I was young, healthy and skinny. In hind sight, I wish my Mom had talked to him and he had gotten her into his studio. She died of heart disease very young. She hated exercise and wasn't afraid to say it. If only...

So well over 20 years later, I still have the desire. I own over 20 of his videos -- wait, now I own 7 more DVDs, even though four are duplicates. lol

Maybe I'll get brave.

The ladies in the chatroom who had met him said he is magical in real life. I will probably never meet him, but I still love Richard. =)

Kicked My Butt

I did Richard Simmons' Sweat 'n Shout, also known as Sweatin' to the Oldies 4.

Why, I have no idea, but this was the hardest video for me. I was pouring sweat. The last two songs I marched in place with my arms down rather than doing the moves.

Anyone who knows Richard's videos, is this one harder to you? Or was it just my body saying NOOOO. lol

I look forward to the day that I can finish it. What a great way to measure success. For now I'll keep plugging away, doing what I can in a healthful manner.

I have exercised five days in a row. Not my 20-minute Blast Off tapes, not walking the dog (which has lots of starts and stops as he's a puppy and being trained), hour-long exercise videos. Woo-hoo.

I know I have to exercise daily for the rest of my life. My life depends on it, my health depends on it. It makes me feel good, and I actually, cough, sputter, enjoy it. I always have. It was just getting myself to do it.

I'm going to stick with Richard Simmons videos for awhile. I like him. I have over 20 videos, and I'm still waiting for my QVC order to replace my Sweatin' series with DVDs and add two more new DVDs to the mix. I like Richard. He motivates me. His music is great. He's fun. I know it time I'll need to vary things, but right now I'm good.

I also know I need to add some strength training in. I wanted to take a week or two and get used to doing cardio now. And face it, when you weigh 264 pounds and are doing leg and arm lifts, you ARE doing weigh lifting. lol

Here's a quote from my goals page:

exercise 20 minute 3-4 times a week
exercise 20 minutes 6 times a week
exercise 60 minutes 3-4 times a week
exercise 60 minutes 6 times a week

Now, I have blown the first two out of the water. I will continue. I thought I would have to build up to 60 minutes a day. Not so. I do a Richard video, and if I get tired or it's too much, I drop arms and march in place. I really haven't had to do that much until today. I can already feel my legs getting tighter. My quads are showing. Not ripped, but they're not jelly anymore when touched.

I'm psyched. I don't like the time it takes away from school. However, my DS works on his assignments at the kitchen table while I'm working out. So far it's working for both of us.

I'm happy. I'm pleased with myself. I'm proud of myself.

Recipe Review

FINALLY...after having this on my menu since forever, I finally made the Crockpot Cheeseburgers.

Instead of browning the burger, I boiled it. That's a great way to lower fat in ground beef. Once it's boiled, blot it with paper towels, then rinse it. It reduces calories by a great deal. See this website for more information. Boiling also takes zero effort, and the meat crumbles so easily when done. I add my seasonings after boiling the beef.

My hubby and son loved it. They have asked that this become a repeat recipe.

Son wished for more cheese, but I said instead he could put a slice on his bun. He didn't think it would be as good that way because it wouldn't be all melted in.

I thought it was missing something. What, I don't know. I added a little too much to mine. It was good, moist, and filling. I think I would have enjoyed something tomato-y in it. They wouldn't, though.

Personally, I'd rather have a hamburger. BUT...this will help us use up that ground beef that's in our freezer.

I did not snap a picture, shame on me!

Workin' It

I did Sweatin' to the Oldies III today.

Today's workout wasn't that great. Right before I started, I got an email that really bothered me and I kept thinking about it while I worked out. So my mind wasn't in it. Plus, it had been years since I did this video and didn't remember the moves, so I was all over the place. lol

Nonetheless, I am dripping...got that exercise in, so I'm proud of myself.

A Favor

Update:

My blogging friend Fat[free]Me has edited the photo for me and done a fantastic job! To think, all the way from Scotland...how fitting, my border collie was in the photo, too. Border collies originated in Scotland! Wonderful place!

Thank you so much, I appreciate it greatly!

Jo

If anyone out there has Photoshop and would be willing to fix a photo for me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I have a photo with me and my Pip on the day we got him, but there's a bunch of junk sitting on the dog crate to the side of me that I would like removed.

I would greatly appreciate this. This is the only recent (within years!) photo where I have a big smile on my face, and even though I'm windblown, oily, and my shirt has muddy puppy prints, I'd like to make it one of my official before photos.

Thanks!
