High Volume Dinner

Supper tonight.

spaghetti: The Smart stuff 1 cup = 3 points
spaghetti sauce: 1/4 cup = 1 point
cottage cheese: Fiber One brand 1/2 cup = 1 point
salad: mostly Romaine & carrots 1 cup = 0
corn 1/2 cup = 1 point
garlic toast, diet bread 1 point (yeah, I know the squirts of butter spray add up, but I've been getting away with it so far.)

HIGH on starch, but very filling!

I don't like salad dressing, so the cottage cheese is eaten with my salad.

7 points

That sure beats a Lean Cuisine for volume and taste!

A Little Rant

I am trying to be so focused on positive, but when something bugs me I think it's good to get it off my chest. So I'm going to have a little rant.

I've mentioned my best friend before. She is a gal who loves the Atkins/Low-Carb style, but never loses any weight. She also believes every person should eat whole-fat foods: whole milk, yogurt, butter, etc. She uses all the bad oils in her cooking. She doesn't believe in the concept of calories.

That's all fine for her, it's her life, and she has to do what fits her life. The preaching gets on my nerves, though.

So last night she was talking about being in a medical facility cafeteria visiting someone. She went to get lunch and was very upset that they only had low-fat yogurt, because it's so unhealthy. She ranted about medical facilities should know better than to serve anything low fat. According to her, they (whomever they is) have proved that low-fat diets don't work. Cough, cough, ahem.

I just ignore this stuff and try to change the subject.

We were talking about medial issues and she made a comment about my anxiety. Remember those pills they gave you last year that you thought you needed? The pills for your anxiety? You've sure proven them wrong, haven't you? You don't need those, no one does.

My mouth hung open. I told her I had just taken one the other night. She ignored me and went on and on about anxiety being over diagnosed and that it was all in my head.

Oy.

~~~~
Just sharing this helps me. It was amazing she made the anxiety comments. She knows full well I still take Xanax. Granted, I don't take them often, but since my massive panic attack, I've had monthly mild panic attacks and I DO take the pills.
My frustration is that I just cannot talk about anything health related with her at all and that she doesn't LISTEN to me. While I will never convince her that saturated fat is bad, I don't try anymore. She's certainly entitled to her own opinion. I just find the whole thing perplexing.
~~~~

This person is related to me, but not a sibling. We do not live in the same town, but talk on the weekly. I haven't gone to see her for awhile because the last time we were together, we had a blast, but she nitpicked about the fact that I drank a lot of water. I couldn't take a sip without being lectured. It was annoying as hell. Anything relating to health, food intake--it just can't be discussed with her. For the record, I had a water in the morning and one in the afternoon--not a lot by any means. It was June and hot!

~~~~
Everyone has quirks, and this is hers. I hope that I am not that way with her, but I tend to have very good manners and mind my mouth. I might think something, but I never say it because it's unnecessary and frankly rude.
There, rant over. Just needed to get it off my chest.
Now I'll shout:
SATURATED FAT IS BAD FOR OUR BODIES!!! lol
Week 11's I Can Do That
This week my focus will be to not eat any baked chips. I usually eat them with my lunch. Instead, I plan on replacing them with baby carrots or sliced apples.
While I don't see a problem with eating them every once in awhile, the funny thing is that before starting Weight Watchers I very rarely ate any kind of chips. When I started, they were a constant in my diet and in my cupboard. They helped get me started, but now it's time to move on to a bigger bang for the points/calories and healthier choices.
Week 11 Menu
Monday--Spaghetti, Salad, Faux French Bread
Tuesday-Creamy Italian Chicken, Noodles, Salad
Wednesday-Crockpot Cheeseburgers, Salad, Baked Fries
Thursday-Out
Friday-V8 Soup, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Salad
Saturday-Hamburgers, Baked Fries, Salad
Sunday-Grilled Chicken Salad
~~~

Breakfasts: Bran flakes/Fiber One cereal

Lunches: Sandwiches, Fiber One cottage cheese, fruit, baby carrots

Snacks: Frozen pretzels, breakfast cookies, air-popped popcorn, baby carrots, sugar-free jello, tomato juice, etc.

I Should Be in Bed!

But I'm not.

Went to Wally World tonight. I felt so weird walking through the store. Weird in that I felt really good. It was so foreign to me. I'm feeling more energy every day, I feel thinner but a glance in the mirror reminds me I have a long way to go yet.

I can't believe how quickly I'm feeling better. Exercise and positive attitude are behind it, I think.

~~~~~
I always wanted to explain my About Me photo. This photo is me. I was 2-3 years old, so it was in 1967 or 1968. I wish I still had the blonde hair. I didn't know what photo to use when I set this blog up, and I was going through my old pictures and I saw this and the light bulb went on. One of my goals, silly as it may seem, is to be able to bend over. I still can't, I have to stick my leg out behind me and lean to that side because my belly is so large.
In this photo I am bending over. I was still young and innocent and healthy. Bending over is one of my goals. So every time I see it, I am reminded of my desire to bend.
Sleep Again
I want to thank everyone who commented on my sleep post. (And everyone who comments whenever, I really appreciate comments!!!)
Lorie's suggesting of using a notebook to write things down: This is what I did in high school and college when I was studying. It worked wonders.
Many comments about reading: Sometimes at night my eyes really bother me. I have borderline glaucoma, and some weird condition. I have had an MRI and been to my ophthalmologist and a neurologist because if I hold my head in a certain position, my eyes go very blurry. This is much worse at night, and it's one reason I don't read at night. They could find no cause for this.
I used to sleep wonderfully when I worked full time. When I quit my job to raise my son, that's when my sleep issues started.
So last night as I lie in bed, tossing and turning again, I was thinking about all of your comments and what the actual problem was: the racing mind. I decided that this was MY time to relax and rejuvenate, and I didn't want any one or any thing interfering with my time. So I decided to come up with some focus words to bring me back to where I was supposed to be. I didn't want to be negative, and it took me a minute to figure it out.
Just me. Those two words are what I settled on. Every time my mind wandered, I would say JUST ME, this is my time and no time for problems, distractions, etc. I must have said it a thousand times.
Guess what? I didn't get out of bed once. I went to bed at midnight, and I know I was asleep before 12:30.
So I'm going to practice this for awhile. Hopefully I'll get my bedtime back a bit, too, so I'm up a bit earlier in the morning.
Just me. Making it all about me, taking care of my body, and easing my mind!
