Monday Morning Weigh-In

241

That's a 2-pound loss for the week!

I hit the 40-pound milestone and another 5-pounds goal for a pretty red star.

Yay!

Take a Chance

Take a Chance, Don't Waste It...
The Time is Today

That was what was printed on our high school Key Club t-shirts. (Key Club is the high school version of Kiwanis.)

I think of that phrase a lot.

I need to take a chance. I've been thinking into the future about 200 pounds and below. I've been thinking about onederland. The last time I got to onderland seven years ago, I freaked. It was very uncomfortable to me--even though I was more comfortable. Like that makes any sense.

It was strange, I drew attention, because lots of people commented on my weight, and I just didn't care to be the center of attention.

It was being uncomfortable, plus stress with my son and his education, that did me in. He was in public school at the time, not doing well, and we had taken him to a gifted educational psychologist in Colorado. It was there we learned he was gifted with learning disabilities, would probably never get a good education in public school just because his brain was wired so differently, and it was then that the decision was made to homeschool. (We are NOT anti-public school at all, my son had some fantastic teachers. In fact, his last PS teacher took me to lunch one weekend and suggested that my son be homeschooled. She recognized his gifts and his limitations and knew he needed a different environment for learning.)

I had remained perfectly on plan that whole trip. I was down 72 pounds. On the way home, we stopped at a gas station. I bought a candy bar. I ate my stress. The rest was histroy. I gained it back plus.

So when I started this journey in February, I kept thinking...I'm doing great now, but what will happen to me when I get below 200. I have been fully expecting a freak-out session, struggles, and being uncomfortable with my body again, even though I'm more comfortable in my body.

I need to stop that thinking NOW. I really think I'm setting myself up for future failure worrying about this and sending myself these negative messages. It's always there, it's always in the back of my mind. "Onderland."

So I need to come up with ideas to replace my stinking thinking. Ideas?

I can focus on health, which has been my focus all along. Right now that's pretty powerful--extremely powerful. Will it be enough when I get to onderland?

I haven't been below 200, aside for the brief period of time seven years ago, for 16 years. I gained and went over 200 after mom died.

At this point I don't know how to think healthfully about onderland--I don't know how to change my negative thought patterns.

I'm working on it, and I need to do it now before I ever get there. I am open to suggestions.

Jumping to Conclusions

Boy, had I been on any other blog today when I got that Google message, I wouldn't have jumped to conclusions. I feel kind of bad, especially since I teach my son to use his critical thinking skills and I didn't. I know Google/Blogger has a lot of issues. There have been issues the last couple days. D'uh!!!

I had a busy and productive day. Cleaned house like a fiend, worked on laundry, worked on projects. Vacuumed, mopped, and then I cleaned the carpets. I bought a Hoover steam cleaner well before my surgery and just now got around to using it. If the carpets dry as nice as they look now, WOW, I'm impressed.

I'm counting all my cleaning as exercise, because I did move, I lifted, I bent, I sweat and yes, I actually got out of breath.

I also took a few moments to work on one of my projects. I called the appliance store where I bought my dishwasher and asked who they would recommend to do carpentry to make it a built-in. She told me I didn't need a carpenter, I needed a plumber. I explained to her that I do need a carpenter, as my cabinets were custom built with no place for a dishwasher, and they need to be modified to hold a dishwasher. And then she argued with me. I was about to say thanks, but she recommended a place. I called it, and it was a heating/air conditioning/plumbing place. Oh bother. lol The guy I talked to laughed, because I told him I was smart enough to know he didn't do carpentry, and he recommended a few carpenters.

When I was looking their numbers up, I decided to blow it off. If it is going to be that big of a production, my small amount of money I have set aside to do this probably won't cover it. I guess I could call and get an estimate, but I don't think I'm going to like it. Hubby said he'd be afraid to attempt it.

And so there goes that dream. Yet, I've lived with the dishwasher in the middle of the kitchen for 11 years now, I can continue. After all, it's better than not having a dishwasher. The one thing I can do is have hubby run a line so that I can run the dishwasher at the sink on hot water, but still have access to the faucet. That would be a big improvement.

So I did do something on my list. The carpets were on the list, too. I still need to do the school room carpet.

Making progress, moving forward. Getting on top of things and done makes me feel better.

What?

I was reading blogs and then all of a sudden I couldn't get to any blogs. I'm getting this message from Google:

We're sorry...
... but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

I'm running a scan on my computer right now. I don't understand this, but there is one particular blog that I visit that has always done weird things to my computer in the past. When visiting through Google Reader, when I go to that blog, it just opens and opens and opens windows all over the place. I usually have to reboot. I quit reading the blog for a bit, tried it again, and it stopped. Today when I went to comment at that blog, it took me to the Google page. The only blog, besides mine, that I can get into now is a fellow homeschooler that I just commented on prior to this happening. (Missy, if you see test in the comments, you now know what that is!)

Can blogs have malware? That's what Google refers to, malware.

I tried shutting my modem off and re-starting. We used to get a different IP number when doing that, but it stayed the same--so I can't hide from Google that way. Nothing is showing up on my scan, and it's been going 40 minutes.

I will have a nervous breakdown if I can't read and comment on blogs! lol

Grrr. Hubby won't be happy, because he will be asked to help. He doesn't like cleaning up my messes! :-p~~~ But he does it.

Filing this one under pain! lol

I Rock!

If I do say so myself.

After posting, I decided to bite the bullet and clean out my closet. I don't have a lot of clothes, plus I have a small closet, so it doesn't take that long.

I have 40 free hangers, not counting too-big clothes that are in the dirty clothes and two bags ready for donation. One bag to be cut up for rags. I'll probably have two more bags for donation when I get my laundry done.

As I was organizing, I looked to the floor. There were three suspicious white garbage bags neatly stacked in the back. I had forgotten about them. I pulled them out, and it was like Christmas in August.

Found:

4 size 1X winter shirts. All seven years old, but classic enough to be worn now. I bought these new when I had lost my 70 pounds before.

1 size 1X bathrobe--it FITS!!!!

1 size 20 jeans--can wear NOW!

5 pair capris that I can wear NOW!! (two size 18, one size 1X and two size 20)

2 size 18 shorts--can get them on, but they're snug--future exercise clothes!

3 size 18 capris--can get them on, but snug. May be able to wear them in September. If not, I'm out of luck--I am in Minnesota, land of no more capris after September.

3 size 18 jeans--too snug for now, but this fall! Woot!

2 size 16 jeans--they look so small! I was wearing these when I lost weight before--this was the size I got to.

I am so psyched! Granted it is all seven-year-old stuff, but perfect for around the house. I can still buy a couple of "going out" outfits. I bought all this stuff new the last go round. I remember I bought other things from thrift stores, but I didn't keep that stuff.

What's that passage, give and ye shall receive? I made the decision to bag up for donation, and ta-da, I found a gift I left for myself seven years ago that I had long forgotten about.

The tightwad in me is very excited!

Random Stuff

* Went to Harry Potter last night. Oh my gosh, was that a long movie--2 1/2 hours! Loved it, though.

* When putting jammies on last night, I reached for my new size 18s just to see. (Thrift store, new with tags, $3!!) Lo and behold, they fit comfortably. Quite a difference from my old jammy bottoms that the crotch was to my knees.

* Feeling a lot more confident. Self-esteem is soaring. I am looking at things that have been bothering me and they seem so stupid now. Developing ability to detach from toxic situations.

* Need to plan out our school year. We start September 8. We follow the local school district's schedule.

* Need to clean the living room and school room carpets.

* Son has requested an amusement park and aquatic park visit before the end of the summer. Need to accommodate him. Also want to throw in a beach-without-dogs day. Also, visit the local county fair when it starts.

* Need to get back on track with exercise.

* Need to bring to fruition all these great plans and discoveries I've made about myself.

* Need to find someone to build in my dishwasher.

* Need to nag hubby about roof/windows.

* Need to clean out my closet. I seem stuck when it comes to getting rid of the old clothes. When I get dressed in the morning and something is so large, I seem to get frustrated. Why can't the clothes shrink with me? I think this stems from the fact I'm a tightwad. I need to get rid of the too-large clothes and be done with it, though. Time to move forward.

* Need to buy some new clothes.

* Need to buy new undies. Really, it's time. They're too large.

* Need to re-evaluate my health goals. They're changing as I'm changing.

* Need to find volunteering opportunities. This is harder than it seems, as the two obvious choices where I live had nothing available when I called. If we attended church, it might be easier to find something. But we don't. I've been discussing that with my husband, the need for our son to go, but DH and I are both introverts and full of excuses. My social anxiety runs high when I think of going back.

* Need to deep clean kitchen. While have a school room, we do all our learnin' at the kitchen table.

* Need to rework our budget, pay off the car repair, and work in DS's new braces. Also need to plan for DS's upcoming birthday and Christmas.

* Need to get off my butt and computer and get going!
