My Kitchen

Okay, so the thing is...this dishwasher will have to be put under the counter on the left side about where it is sitting. The cabinet is one long cabinet just like on the other side. So we have to hire a carpenter to do some fixing, an electrician to put juice in, and a plumber to put in a hot water line.

This picture was taken a couple years ago on a dare--it was a homeschool blog thing, show your kitchen right now as it is. I was embarrassed to post dirty dishes, but oh well. And my curtains are put up correctly now not hanging there in the middle. I don't remember why that was, but there was some dumb reason.

There's just no room to move in there. And the dishes pile up because if I'm cooking, I can't run the dishwasher because I need the sink. We also do our homeschooling at the kitchen table, and the portable dishwasher is loud, so we don't run it during school. So basically it gets run in the evenings.

I'm just a little nervous over the cost of the carpenter, and if he can do it well. This house was built in the 70s--they didn't put in a shower nor a dishwasher-what were they thinking??? My hubby redid our bathroom and it's gorgeous, but he's leery cutting into the cabinets.

Gee, it would be really nice to have room to move. I'd love new counters, but I know I don't have money for that.

I hope I can get something worked out. I think I really want to do this. I'm still curious how much it would cost. I have no idea. I don't even have an idea of how much to budget.

  1. Thank you so much for your kind comments you left over at my blog. Good luck with the dishwasher. This might be crazy, but I love to do the dishes. In fact I wash them myself then rinse and dry them in the dishwasher. I do some of my best thinking while doing the dishes, that and vacuming.

  2. Just a thought Jo, what about trying to find a Handy-Man, some one that could do it all...maybe they could even give you some optional ideas. And even if they can't do it all, they most like know some one that they can recommend.

In the mean time, you can get that positive mojo going and turn it in to a meditation session like fatty McButter Pants. :-)

  3. I can relate to the whole dirty dishes thing. First I had them clutter, then I decided the ones that really sat I'd throw away. Now I just threw them all away and started from scratch... one pot, one fork, one plate... Now all the dishes in the house ccan be dirty and it's only a 3 minute problem! If all else fails, lower your standards.

Low standards are the foolsfitness way!-Alan

  4. I think Patty's idea of finding a local handyman is a good one. I won't go into our big ordeal with redoing our kitchen but it seemed to start out with a rotten section of flooring and before I knew it I had a whole new kitchen many thousands later. Really I wouldn't think a dishwasher install would cost to much and really your husband might be able to do it, that was one thing my husband did do with my nephew's help and he's not all that handy unless it's a computer problem lol.
