Blizzard Warning

We're in a blizzard warning today and tomorrow. It officially starts at noon. It's snowing now--a very beautiful snowfall, a perfect winter scene. The wind is due to kick up which is what will cause problems.

Yesterday DS and I left the house at 2, which is something we never do, go out during school hours unless we're doing something school related or a medical appointment. We went to the grocery store. So did everyone else. The store was a nightmare. We have a very high elderly population in my town, and they were all at the Hy-Vee with us. (Their presence slows those of us who are speed shoppers down.) Everyone was getting stocked up.

We're all set. We have food and the pets have food. The shovels are ready, the snow blower is sitting there, hubby having filled its tank and started it up before he left. This is the only part I dread of the upcoming blizzard. I really struggle running that snow blower. Most times when hubby is out of town and it snows, my son and I just shovel the driveway by hand. When this is all over, we're supposed to get 7-11 inches. With the blowing wind, that means a lot more snow than 7-11 inches to shovel. Yuck.

Hubby was supposed to come home mid-week. We both decided that was no good, because he'd be driving through the blizzard, so he'll be coming home at the end of the week. I just want him here. I miss him.

My stress level has been high with him gone. Last night I had a ferocious headache. I have not worked out the past two days. That is a huge stress reliever, but I just didn't have much energy the past few days. Stress does that to me. Today I will get my workout in, though, as we have no where to go. I'm sure it will make me feel better.

I anticipate a workout with shoveling. Even if I do get the snow blower running (it's only a couple years old and in good shape, I just struggle with the thing) we'll still have to shovel parts by hand. I plan on wearing my heart rate monitor and seeing how my heart does and what kind of calorie burn I get!

Bring it on--let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

  1. Try not to wait till the snow has stopped to go shovel or snowblow if you can. When we get huge snowfalls, Hubby tries to do it every couple of hours or so, unless the wind gets too bad, in which case you should NOT go out in it at all! That way you aren't trying to move all 7-11 inches at once, which is actually kinda dangerous. Of course, with the high winds it may not do any good anyway since it could just blow back over the sidewalks and driveway after you're done...

Hmmmm. I'll just shut up now. :)

Be careful and go slow. Try to enjoy the time when you are stuck at home with no place to go. Sometimes those are my absolute FAVORITE times!

  3. It's 5 degrees here in Boulder and it has been snowing on and off for a couple of days. I love the snow when I have nowhere to go, but it's daunting trying to drive around in it!

  4. I'm with Katie J - snow? What do you do besides play in it?!? Seriously, glad to hear you are all set with provisions for all creatures, have heat, and are safe at home to weather out the storm. Good luck and post some pictures for those of us "snow-deprived" people!

  5. We have about an inch of snow so far & it is snowing again. They are calling for about 5-8 more inches. I know north of us is suppose to get about 10 to 12 inches. The temperature is going to drop also. Tomorrow night the low is 5 degrees.

  6. Just slid back home from a dental appt. The snow is coming down pretty good here, too. They are telling us to expect 10-14" then as our bonus, we are going to get 45mph winds to scatter the snow into lovely 10' drifts. Ain't winter in the midwest wonderful?

Take it easy on the shovelling.

  8. I had no idea what shoveling was until I moved here! A stinking good work out indeed I look forward to hearing bout the heartrate results! First time I ever shoveled I heard of putting salt down so I poured kitchen salt all over the driveway, there are still little holes all over LOL I was a total dummy :)

  9. I think shovelling is in my very near future as well!

Thanks for your comment on the Beck Diet Solution about the Diet Coach. It is hard to count on the blogging community, when like you said, you don't want to share your entire life on the internet!

Unfortunately, I don't think alot of people realise that blogs (or any internet based community) are completely one sided and that people only share what they want - whether that be the truth, fiction or fantasy or a blend of all three.

    Be careful shovelling out there.
