That Made Me Cry

I'm sitting in my kitchen with the TV on sending emails. The Twin Cities news comes on and there's the story about Jen's mom. I look up to watch, see Jen, watch the whole segment, and just had tears pouring down my face. While the film crew was there, the man who hit her came to apologize. Jen's dad hugged him and forgave him.

My heart just aches. I was saying prayers for the man that hit Jen's mom as well. I cannot imagine being in his shoes. The biggest mistake of his life, a mistake that was deadly. The news said that Jen's mom had earphones on and was in a blind spot. Be careful out walking and jogging. I don't think I'll use my Shuffle when I walk due to this--not that that caused it, but just as a precaution. It said he will probably not be charged. Be careful walking, be careful backing up.

Just made me cry. Watching Jen's family, I was so moved. The beautiful grandson who was with his Grandma Kimberly was on my screen. A happy, bouncy one-year-old, the beautiful boy whose can thank his grandma for saving his life.

At first I saw Jen's picture with her mom and her entire family, but when they showed the family in their yard, I couldn't even see if Jen was there--too many tears in my eyes.

I tried to avoid the Cities' news this weekend. I live a couple hours from the Twin Cities, but we get their channels. It was just surreal to have my online life touch my real life through the television. I was so impressed with Jen's family. You can just tell they are such good people.

Oh, my heart aches for them.

The station was Fox 9, here's a link to the station, although I didn't see the segment on their site. They may put it up after the news is finished.

I read Jen's blog, but I don't "know" her--I don't comment on her blog. I wish there was something tangible I could do for her, for her family. I've sure said plenty of prayers for them this weekend.

Updated: Here is a link to the video. I watched it again, and this time I did see Jen. I need another Kleenex.

  3. Thanks for posting the link, even though it made me cry all over again. Amazing, the acceptance and forgiveness that her family has.

  4. I too was brought to tears. It is seems so senseless of a loss and her mom was so young. She and her family will continue being in my prayers.

  6. Jenn's been in my thoughts all weekend too. I don't think i could handle watching the news clip though. I'd lose it again. Can't lose it today.
Anyhow.. I walk with my MP3 player all the time and i do worry about things like cars and such, especially since I walk in the parking lane instead of the sidewalk (softer on the joints) But I've learned not to use both ear buds... i only use 1 and place the other under my bra strap. I switch it to whatever ear is opposite the ear on the side of the street so i can hear cars, and really... it helps me hear my daughter if I'm pushing her in the stroller :) When i walk in the park and the kiddo isn't with me... i'm full blast... both ears... even on my streets for home. Should probably change that. Anyhow... point is, You'll find ways to make your MP3 work without giving it up :)

  8. It made me cry too. I haven't been able to stop thinking about Jen and her family since I heard the news on Saturday. It's hard to explain to people how close we feel to blog friends even though we may never meet in person. It's good to know she is surrounded by loved ones.
