A health, fitness, and weight-loss story.

Duh

Sometimes my brain just doesn't function right. It took me the whole day to figure out the swelling. Actually both legs were swollen, but my right leg always gets bigger so it's more noticeable.

The cause: heat. Tuesday it was 94 degrees here and I had to be out in the heat. Heat always makes me swell up. And it's usually a delayed reaction type thing, it builds. The swelling usually lasts a couple days. So I'm still swollen, drinking my water and propping my legs.

I do have a doctor appointment scheduled the first of June and I'm hitting her hard with questions and concerns. This swelling issue, which I have had for years, is on the agenda.

I did work out today, as I figured it would help with the circulation. I wanted to do a shorter tape, so I pulled Richard Simmons' Broadway Blast Off. I hardly broke a sweat and kind of regretted doing it for that reason. I think that will be a good one when I have a cold or am not feeling well, it's enough to get the body moving and touch my breathing a bit, but it didn't make me sweat. I loved the music, though, and I kept singing The Telephone Song in my head after.

It's late, I need to get to bed.

  1. I'm glad you found a likely culprit... My feet didn't swell at all this past summer, because of the exercise and healthier eating. It really makes a difference!

  3. As you get more fit, I bet you see symptons like the swelling disappear for the rest of your life. Another good reason for us to all keep at it!

  6. Sometimes, having the motivation to workout (albeit lighter) when we're under the weather, or our bodies are under the weather....is a HUGE victory. Even though you didn't sweat... you MOVED! depsite the swelling and depsite the akwardness that swelling probably caused during the workout (as I can't imagine having your limpbs swelled is a comfortable thing while working out) you got up and MOVED! :) So i say take the lighter route and great job!! :)

  7. I have had swelling issues too. More on the left leg then the right. With my weight loss, it has gotten much better but my doctor put me on water pills to help reduce it. Hopefully I will be able to discontinue them with increased loss. Good for you getting up and doing the DVD! Any movement is a good thing!
