I woke up this morning to a throbbing leg. My right leg is very swollen, to the point it's throbbing. I looked over the food journal from yesterday, and aside from 3 thin slices of deli ham (1 pt worth) I didn't have high sodium, and nothing that I can figure that would trigger the water. I did have Taco Bell Monday night, but that shouldn't take this long to show up.
My hip on that side is kind of sore as well.
Oh joy. Will be drinking lots of water today, will work out as usual for circulation as that always helps.
My leg has held more water the past week or so than normal. I have been eating 1 pt worth of deli ham every day for lunch, because I was sick to death of tuna. I need to revamp my noon sandwich and see if that helps overall. I love ham so much, which is a shame. I wouldn't even dream of walking into a Subway right now.
I have also noticed something weird about the scale. IF I get a full 8 hours sleep, the scale reports the previous morning's weight or less. If I do not get a full 8 hours, it's up. I know this because I will hop on the scale a few times in the morning on an up day, and it eventually creeps back down.
The past week I noticed a lot of up and down, but not going below 258.5 so Monday morning's weigh-in was a huge and welcome surprise. I'm wondering now if the morning is perhaps not the best time for me to weigh in. I'm going to monitor my weight at the same time every day at a couple of different time intervals.
I'm just funny that way. Jumping on the scale a lot does nothing to me psychologically, I find the science of it fascinating. I don't freak about the scale. I do freak when I have been working my butt off, eating my points, and have small losses...that's different. But it doesn't bother me to hop on now and again.
I know a lot of people can't do that because they obsess. Perhaps it seems like I'm obsessing, but seriously, I'm just curious about how weight fluctuates. Maybe that's the homeschool mom in me, I want to figure that out, study it, analyze it.
I think I'll take two Motrin for the inflammation, lie down on the couch with my leg propped up, and have DS do some reading for an hour. Hopefully that will help the leg a bit.
You may be sensitive to nitrates and nitrites that are used in deli meat...
ReplyDeleteI am the same way, if I dont get enough sleep, the scale is up! Jillian Michaels has talked in a couple of her podcasts about how important it is to get enough sleep. It does a lot of great things for your body, including helping your metabolism!
ReplyDeleteBody weight fluctuates throughout the day. That's the reason I decided on the once a week schedule and weigh in at the same time of day each week.
ReplyDeleteI was feeling like a "kindred soul" when I read about you weighing often (I weigh almost every time I go into the bathroom!LOL) but then you said that you were a homeschool mom (I am too!) and I thought, "I've *got* to follow this blog!"
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading your posts and following you on your journey. It looks like you've done great thus far! ~ Amy aka that TOPS lady
I weigh myself all the time too! I don't obsess about it but it keeps me in check. I find it fascinating too how it changes throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteI am fascinated with the fluctuations as well Jo! I do hope you leg swelling resolves quickly and there may be something to what Hanlie said about the nitrates. I am very sensitive to them and MSG too. Every part of me swells, but esp. my feet and ankles.
ReplyDeletego to the doctor. Swollen is one thing. Swollen and throbbing is another. You could have a blood clot or other venous issues.
ReplyDeleteI have kind of gotten behind on your blog, but it looks like you've had alot going on this past week. Way to push thru your anxiety with exercise. I wish I could do that EVERY time.
ReplyDeleteBIG CONGRATS on your shout out from the SIMONS GUY! That's way cool for you!
Take it easy on your leg, is it warm to the touch? That could mean big problems! Like phelbitis.
I don't own a scale and it would freak me out to jump on it every day. I REALLY try to just go by how I feel and how my clothes and then just weigh in at WW.
Feel better!
I don't like the sound of your leg either - it might be worth a check with your doctor.
ReplyDeleteI only weigh myself weekly first thing in the morning so I am not aware of any odd fluctuations. I think many things can cause our weight to vary, fluid, tummy contents, sweating, TOM, swellings, medications. It would drive me mad trying to figure it out!
Keep well and get that leg looked at!
Ouch. The leg/hip pain is awful. Could it really be that little piece of ham? Who knew! I hope you're feeling better soon. I also weigh frequently and if the scale is up it doesn't bother me because I know I on plan 100%. The body fluctuates - just keep doing what you're doing!
ReplyDeleteTHanks for all of the nice comments on my page! Son only lacks a self test and a PACE test and we will be finished for the year (big yay!). Daughter is already finished. You had asked how a night owl got up at 5:30 and walked. I *forced* myself, that's how. And it made me feel terrible from not getting enough rest. So I did 2 days of early and 2 days of sleeping in. I plan to do the early thing again tomorrow if I get to bed at a decent time tonight. Thanks for reading!
ReplyDeleteI agree with whoever told you to go to the doctor. It could be a DVT or possibly even a fluid shift issue resulting from your heart (not likely with only one swollen leg, but you never know). Don't play this one off...
ReplyDeleteI hope that you attend to that leg. It made me worried to hear of you waking up with it suddenly. LOTS of serious stuff is associated with it. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!! My theory is to GO to the doctor first, and question it later...
