I'm Home

A little drugged, so excuse typos.

Made it to the big city fine, the anesthesiologist gave me anti-nausea meds and pepcid. Also something for anxiety. Saw the doctor briefly.

Boom, things happen fast. Next thing I knew I was taking deep breaths and out without thought.

Waking up was the hard part. I just wanted to lie on my side and sleep. Got sick. I always get sick after surgery, despite the nausea meds.

I was in recovery for an hour, they gave me Sierra Mist and crackers. I requested full-sugar pop. I think there's a time and place for that, and today was the time and place. Sierra Mist hit the spot.

After that she told me to get dressed to go home.

WHAT? I'm too tired! I'm light-headed. Noooo. But I did.

She wheeled me the car, and handed me a throw-up bag. She said the long ride might give me motion sickness.

HA HA HA ... We made it from the loading zone to the entrance to the parking lot and I was using that bag. I felt so bad as my hubby, who has a steel stomach, was turning green.

He stopped and bought me a fountain Sprite which was nice. Had a few sips, slept all the way home. Had strange, cool psychedelic dreams. Color dreams, with patterns and shapes...it was kind of cool. lol

Have been cramping the whole time, and the cramps run down my legs. It's just like a rough period--what I'm used to.

Doc gave me darvocet. I was so hoping for Percocet, which I call a happy pill. lol Also gave me 800 mg Motrin. I'm to take both. Believe me, I will. lol

Got home, put my favorite night gown on, climbed into bed and slept hard for about 45 minutes. Then I woke up ravenous. Hubby was picking up my meds so I had some soda crackers. Yum.

When he got home, I popped a pill even though it was 15 minutes too early. Then I discovered hubby bought me my all-time favorite food: Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. My son made it for me without butter and I had maybe a half a cup. That's all I'll eat today, more than likely, mac and cheese and crackers.

Have been sleeping about ten minutes a pop, then getting up and walking around.

I'm a drugged zombie.

The only weird thing was my blood pressure. Hubby watched it and the bottom number got as low as 38. The rest of the time it was in the 40s and 50s. Strange. Funny, when I was in high school and early college, it used to be very low like that. When I donated blood, I used t have to jog in place to get it up.

Everything went very well, but if I could change anything, I would request they let the person stay and recover longer. I just didn't feel up to going quite yet as I was so tired. It was really good to be in my jammies, though, and in my own bed. Still, it was too quick.

My hubby and son thought the socks were the coolest. (So did I.) bairpaws.com is the company. It's a gown that has vacuum cleaner-like holes, and they insert warmer hoses. That was way cool. Also came with those cute socks. Both hubby and son asked if I got to keep the socks! lol I did. Will snap a photo when I'm not so drugged.

Sorry if this was too long or gross, but the blog is my memory, so I tell it like it is.

I'm going to snuggle up and turn on the TV. Not going to put a movie in yet because I'll fall asleep.

  1. I'm so glad it's over, and that you are back home. I agree with you about the fact that the hospitals should keep you a bit longer after surgery. It's like they say, "Oh - you're awake, bye-bye!"

  10. The first day of recovery is always such a haze, it gets exponentially better. Glad it went well! Make sure you get pampered like you should!

  11. SO glad it's over. The 1st 3 days of recovery are the worst. Then it gets better. Very sweet of the family to chip in and get mac and cheese. I grew up on that neon orange cheesy goodness. LOL

You had asked about our curriculum. We also use secular stuff mostly: Story of the World, Usborne history, Kingfisher history, Italic handwriting, Classical Roots, a Latin program we haven't started yet, Rod & Staff Grammar (not secular but the content is good), Critical Thinking, Avko spelling, How Nature Works, various science encyclopedias & experiment books, Math U See & Teaching Textbook. Math is so hard for Rachel but she seems to be doing good with the Math U see & Teaching Textbook combo. We also go to the library once a week.

  12. Glad you are doing well, that's like groovy girl! Those dreams man...trippy!

I think we all know what pain meds work better for us, but if you ask for them by name---you're automatically suspected of being an addict. One time I was given Vicodin after a dentist visit. I didn't take them all, then one day when I was having the worst pain I'd ever had---I took one, and BAM---no more pain. But you can't just say "Uh yeah, I'd really like some vicodin."

I hope you feel much better and much relaxed this weekend.
